From the Crib to the Bed - Iron and Brass Bed Transitions

Your child's move from a crib into their first real bed can be quite an interesting experience for both child and parent. There is the lack of security, the foreignness of a new resting place, and the choice of styles. It can be a difficult experience for everyone involved, without a doubt, but equally certain are the opportunity for growth that is presented by a change of bed. Because a young child cannot directly express their wishes for a place to sleep (nor would they have a rational or complete idea of what should be used for a sleeping place if they could) it is up to the responsible parent to investigate and decide the bed in which a youngster should sleep after leaving the crib.

The two biggest obstacles to a smooth transition from crib to bed are the lack of security afforded by the removal of guardrails and the foreignness of the new place to sleep-- neither should be overlooked nor undervalued. For the parent it might be useful to place themselves in the mindset of their little one when considering the purchase of a new bed and the difficulties of leaving the crib. For a child, the crib is where they spend the majority of their time. It is the place where they take their naps and go to sleep at night, but it is also an infant's most familiar inanimate object in a very small world. For an infant, the association of the crib and the guardrails is not just made to location, but to feelings of security and love for their parents as well. It is conceivable that a little one would associate their parents not only with the smell of their clothes and the sound of their voice, but also with the place that they spend the most time: their crib. As parents, be ready and willing to deal with the crying and dislike that your child will likely express when first removed from the familiar home within a home. The crib needs to go eventually, but do so with compassion and understanding for your infant's predicament.

The style of the bed can affect the temperament of the infant and the parents alike. It would be a mistake to purchase a large, plush mattress and frame for a child that will be sleeping by him or herself. Try and choose a bed that fits your son or daughter's petite size and your style concerns. For a classic style, children cannot go wrong with a brass or iron bed. These beds are designed with a refined aesthetic in mind, and can serve as a great first indoctrination for your child into the world of class and excellence. Be certain to try out multiple mattresses and style when you purchase your new piece of furniture, you do not want to be stuck with an expensive and inferior product.

For both parents and children alike, the move away from the familiar feel and style of baby's first crib is an exciting and fearful moment. Be understanding of the child's situation as they transition into a life of style and independence.
